Studera också: Gun Control in America Essay Exempel.

Studera också: Gun Violence in America Essay.

Unlike other unfortunate children, my parents are together and have always shown my siblings and I appreciation. My parents have always been very traditional and have taught us manners and how to be talented and educated children. But most importantly, theyve taught us that family always comes first over anything. A day after my fourteenth birthday, my family and I were getting ready to go to Mexico for winter break. We were all excited to finally go to Mexico and be with our family members for the holidays. However, the mood in my house changed in an instant.

I remember the date being December 19 when the truth was revealed. She apologized to my parents and promised that she would end her relationship, life changing moment essay. Seven months passed by and apparently she didnt. For my parents, sister, and I, her lie was a major offense because weve always been there for each other, no matter what. Part of the problem was the guy she was seeing, but what really felt like a betrayal was that she threw away all the trust we had as a family.

That night of December 19, when my parents found out, they had mixed emotions. They were heartbroken, yet very angry. My dads first reaction was to give her the option of leaving the house or ending her relationship. Her decision was very shocking for me, but she decided to leave immediately after the argument. I didnt think that my dads decision was wrong. I actually respected his opinion because I felt like she took for granted what my parents had done for us throughout the years. After my sister left, we had a conversation as a family. We agreed and realized that it was her decision. My dad said that he was very upset and disappointed, but that he wouldnt give up on my youngest sister and I.

As a family, we agreed that we had to keep on going and move on. However, she was still part of our family and had our blood, life changing moment essay. Everyone makes a mistake at some point in life and we couldnt turn our back on her even after her mistake. About three days after she departed, one of her best friends called to let us know that she was fine and now living with the same guy. But she didnt care that she was everything for me or that I gave her all my trust. Sometimes I think about all this and dont know if I should care or not. I would love for everything to be back to normal, but she was the reason for the days I saw my family shed tears, for the loss of hope in my life, and most importantly for me, losing trust in everyone. This moment in my life has been probably the worse of all. My sisters decisions have affected me. Seeing my family suffer the way they did is an experience I dont want to relive. Most of the environmental problems, if not all, are caused by humans. So, it is our duty to undo the destruction caused to Mother Earth. In a similar fashion, global warming has become one of the biggest problems faced by us today.

As the Union of Concerned Scientists claims, reducing greenhouse gas emissions is the first and most important order of business, and will require politicians to take action. The reason why politicians are often reluctant to take action is fear that doing so would adversely impact the economy. After all, many businesses have yet to develop alternative methods, processes, or technologies that can replace those that caused global warming. To overcome this problem, politicians need to simultaneously pass laws that offer incentives to companies for developing alternative technologies or energy sources. Another reason why governments need to take responsibility is that in most places, land use issues can be mitigated via legislation. Instead of allowing more deforestation, governments can cease new developments in favor of a more sustainable economic policy.

Taking action on global warming requires a multifaceted effort, that combines working with the private sector as well as forming local, regional, national, and international coalitions. Each region will experience global warming differently. Therefore, it is important to not just focus on what can be done nationally or internationally but also locally. Each community needs to build its own resilience strategy to reduce harm. For example, regions in California and the American West that could experience greater wildfires and droughts need to have in place improved fire mitigation strategies.

Low-lying coastal regions like Florida and the Atlantic seaboard need to have evacuation or land reclamation measures in place in case of storms and rising sea levels. Local approaches help to create more robust long-term solutions. It is often easier to get smaller groups of people from the same region to agree on a course of action than it is for larger and more diverse entities. The residents of one area can see the immediate results of their work, and are more connected to the need to take action for their community.

Individual consumers also need to take responsibility for their choices to help reduce global warming. Because the private sector responds to consumers, and because governments respond to the private sector, ultimately consumers have more power than they may believe. By choosing sustainable products, and supporting sustainable, ethical companies, individuals can reduce global warming. Eating less meat or no meat is one way to contribute to the effort in reducing demand for unsustainable agricultural practices.

Likewise, boycotting products that are manufactured in ways that contribute to global warming can also help create a consumer-driven revolution. Walking, riding a bicycle, and otherwise avoiding unnecessary use of fuel-burning cars is another way consumers can make a difference even before governments are willing to take action. As the Union of Concerned Scientists also points out, individuals have a responsibility to promote science literacy and reduce misinformation. When voters are empowered with information about global warming, they are more able and likely to elect officials who are dedicated to implementing solutions.

Minimizing damage is also an important global warming strategy. Both governments and the private sector need to work together to create more resilient communities. They serve as additional elements of her story and form the whole picture. The first symbol is the Black Box, which is the heart of the event. It combines tradition and it also shows illogic characters of the villagers. It should be noted that the box is quite old because it has been stored for many years, but people keep it. Their tradition, their views, and habits are based on the idea of this box. There is no logic in the actions of the villagers because they do not follow any other traditions, only this one. Black Box is a symbol of these actions,.

And there is no doubt that the major symbol suggested by Shirley Jackson is the Lottery itself. It demonstrates that the known way of life no matter how stupid, violent or important it may be is everything for the people of the village. The Lottery is the bizarre idea that was received by this generation from their parent and it should be followed without any questions. Shirley Jackson uses foreshadowing to emphasize the possibility of future violent events, she hints on it by using seemingly innocent details, such as stones in the pockets of the children at the beginning of the story, when it is not clear how they will be used further.

Watson, which is made in a form of the indirect mentioning of Watson boy situation by Mr. The way the author creates suspense in her story is amazing. She makes an introduction telling about elements of the tradition, and the audience may follow the process, the ritual, till the shocking end of the story. When this story was published in The New Yorker in , it was perceived quite negatively by the readers and was even banned by a number of organizations. This is clear proof that this short story had a tremendous impact on the readers and deeply touched their feelings. The reaction of the public proves that this story is exceptional and that there are clear parallels with our society and reality. In my opinion, the greatest effect of this story is that it forces everyone to think — about our traditions, rituals, cruelty, and indifference that have already become quite common, and about the consequences of such indifference.

Thinking over such deep philosophic questions can be painful, and this is why the readers reacted in such a negative way to the story. The surrealistic effect of the story is further strengthened by the weird mood of the villagers, festive and sorrowful at the same time. Shirley Jackson manages to keep the attention of the readers and does not reveal the real meaning of the lottery until the very end of the story.

Alla dessa jobb faller under Office of Residence Life.
